Q: WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF HOURLY RATES VS. FLAT RATES?

At Carty Moving & Storage, we understand that transparency in pricing is essential for effective budgeting. That’s why we offer both hourly and flat-rate options for local and long-distance moves, giving our clients the flexibility to choose what best fits their needs.

A) Hourly Rates (for local moves)

Pros:

  • Quick and straight forward setup.

  • You pay only for the actual time     spent on your move.

  • Cost savings are possible when you     prepare in advance — such as packing smaller items, reserving nearby     parking, or booking an elevator.

  • Ideal for smaller apartment or     short-distance relocations.

Cons:

  • The total cost depends on actual     labor time, which may vary due to factors like layout complexity, stairs,     long walks, or last-minute packing.

  • Preparation delays can extend     total time and cost.

  • Customers may unintentionally     underestimate or overestimate the required duration, leading to budget     uncertainty.

B) Flat Rates (for all move types)

Pros:

  • One fixed, all-inclusive price     based on your detailed inventory — no hidden fees.

  • Movers work at a consistent, steady pace focused onsafety and quality.

  • Peace of mind knowing the total     cost upfront.

  • Visual inspections (in-person,     video, or photo-based) allow accurate, tailored estimates.

Cons:

  • Flat-rate quotes may be slightly     higher than hourly rates, as they account for all logistical details in     advance.

  • A complete inventory and layout     details are required for accuracy (parking access, stairs, walking     distance, etc.).

For your convenience, our dispatchers offer 5–10 minute visual inspections via Face Time, Zoom, or Google Meet to ensure fair and precise pricing.
Whether you prefer hourly or flat-rate billing, our team is transparent, efficient, and committed to delivering safe, seamless service.

Q: WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MOVE?

The earlier, the better. Even if your moving date isn’t final, a provisional reservation ensures your preferred time slot is secured. You can always adjust the date later if needed.

Peak times—suchas weekends, month-end periods, and summer months—tend to book out 2–3 weeks in advance, so early scheduling helps avoid last-minute stress.

Even if you’re still comparing companies, our free moving consultation can offer valuable insights to help you plan effectively.

Q: SHOULD I PACK MYSELF OR USE YOUR FULL-PACKING SERVICE?

If your goal isto reduce costs, packing smaller items yourself (clothing, books, kitchenware) is the most economical choice.

However, if convenience is your priority, our professional packing team can handle everything for you. Our trucks come fully equipped with packing materials, and we’ll carefully secure personal items, artwork, books, kitchen inventory, and décor for safe transport.

Q: Are your movers trained, insured, and background-checked?

Absolutely. Every member of our team is fully insured, background-checked, and professionally trained. Carty Moving & Storage never hires temporary or day laborers. With full workers’ compensation coverage, you are protected from liability should any crew member be injured during your move — your peac eof mind is our responsibility.

Q: Do I need to arrange parking for the truck?

Whenever possible, yes. As the property tenant, you have better control over available parking. Reserving a close, dedicated spot for the truck significantly reduces total moving time and cost. We recommend checking with your building management or HOA for any parking regulations or permit requirements in advance.

Q: Do you provide assembly and disassembly services?

Yes. Our movers can assist with basic furniture assembly and disassembly (beds, tables, desks, etc.) using standard tools available on every truck. Please note that we do not perform complex installations or specialty assemblies.

Q: Do you reconnect appliances or mount TVs?

For safety and compliance reasons, movers are not permitted to disconnect or reconnect appliances to electrical, gas, or water lines. We recommend having a qualified technician handle this before moving day.

Our crew can assist with TV removal at pickup but does not perform wall mounting at the destination due to potential electrical or structural risks.

Q: What items cannot be transported?

We cannot move pets, hazardous materials, flammable items, or perishables such as frozen foods. For safety reasons, we may refuse items deemed unsafe or unsanitary.Additionally, extremely heavy items (e.g., pool tables, safes, pianos, large aquariums) may require separate arrangements due to standard weight limitations of 250–350 lbs per item.
